Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS)

WELS, characterized as theologically conservative, is the third largest Lutheran church body in America. With national offices today at 2929 N Mayfair Rd, Milwaukee, WI, WELS began in 1850 when three German pastors met in Milwaukee. Today, it has grown to over 1,200 congregations in North America. It has over 400,000 baptized members, which includes over 300,000 communicants, served by over 1,000 pastors.

Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS)

The WELS and ELS agree in doctrine and are in fellowship with each other.  The difference between them is their historical development.

Martin Luther College (MLC)

The WELS “College of Ministry” prepares pastors, teachers, and staff ministers for the work in the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod .  It is located in New Ulm, Minnesota.

Bethany Lutheran College (BLC)

As the only college of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod (in fellowship with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod), Bethany has a very distinctive world view, one in which faith is valued above all else, and Christ is the center of that faith.  It is located in Mankato, Minnesota.

Wisconsin Lutheran College (WLC)

Wisconsin Lutheran is a 4-year, private, Christian liberal arts college affiliated with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod.  WLC provides quality teaching and active scholarship. WLC’s goal is to deliver a rigorous, personalized education within a loving and caring Christian community of scholars and students.  It is located in Milwaukee,Wisconsin.

Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary (WLS)

The Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary offers theological training for men who desire to enter the pastoral ministry of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) or of churches within its confessional fellowship.  It is not established or maintained to serve as a school of religion for persons who desire merely to take courses in theology.  The seminary also endeavors in various ways to offer opportunity for theological and professional growth to men who already are active in the pastoral ministry of its confessional fellowship.  It is located in Mequon, Wisconsin.

Northwestern Publishing House (NPH)

Northwestern Publishing House operates the largest Christian bookstore in Milwaukee,Wisconsin.  All professional products published by NPH may be purchased here. The store features Bibles, hymnals, and printed materials on doctrine, counseling, prayer life, a wide variety of home decor, gift items and more.  It is located at 1250 North 113th Street, Milwaukee,Wisconsin.

Christian Life Resources (CLR)

CLR educates people, both within and outside the fellowship of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) on the value and sanctity of life; and develops such programs and supports such projects as will protect and maintain human life on the basis of and in conformity with the teachings of God’s Word.

Wisconsin Lutheran Child & Family Services (WLCFS)

Wisconsin Lutheran Child and Family Service was founded in 1965 to reflect the healing and helping ministry of Jesus Christ. As an outreach arm of WELSand ELS members, this charitable agency today serves thousands of God’s people in their special needs. Through a staff of trained professionals, WLCFS offers spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical support to those who look to this organization for help.  It is located at 6800 N. 76th Street in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society (LWMS)

LWMS consists of women of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) focused on the exciting mission of sharing Jesus with the world.

What About Jesus? is a website for the unchurched. Developed by the Commission on Evangelism, the site offers a non-threatening environment to meet objections to Christianity and promote Jesus Christ.
